The GP Forward View and Building Resilience: Support for Practices

The General Practice Resilience Programme, part of the GP Forward View, provides funds to help GP practices build resilience into the system - which means practices can access support and training that won’t cost them a thing.

It’s no secret that the issue of workload pressures is widespread in general practice. This means the resilience funds aren’t just available to ‘at-risk’ practices - although of course they are supported.

Resilience programme funds are also available through NHS England to surgeries that may find themselves at risk if the worst happens and a local practice in their area becomes unable to cope. The important links between neighbouring practices often means the impact of one or two issues can quickly snowball in local areas.

Part of the FPM Group, award-winning primary care trainers Thornfields can help to stabilise practices at risk of closure, as well as providing practices with more transformational support. Their tailored support programmes can offer:

  • Assistance to individual practices or groups of practices in the same locality
  • Diagnostic services to quickly identify areas for improvement support
  • Specialist human resources and IT guidance
  • Coaching/supervision/mentorship with attached ILM qualifications
  • Rapid intervention and management support for at-risk practices
  • Change management and improvement support to individual or group practices

If you think your practice could benefit from working with Thornfields to help build resilience into the system, get in touch with your CCG to find out if they’re aware of these opportunities.

Thornfields have an excellent record of helping practice staff deal with the pressures associated with general practice. All of their experienced trainers have a professional background in primary care and last year they won Education Provider of the Year at the prestigious GP Awards.

Building resilience into the system makes it possible to reduce the risks to practices working at capacity and support staff as they face the day-to-day pressures of general practice.
