Pulse Live 2014

I attended the Pulse Live 2014 Conference in London last week.  The focus was very much around CQC (Care Quality Commission) and my colleague Kathryn was lucky enough to attend a few of the workshops.  The key points that we picked up on were as follows:

  • The new look CQC inspections will be 'stressful and expensive' for practices.
  • The new ratings will take effect from the beginning of October.  ALL practices will be visited over the next 2 years.
  • The new ratings are: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate.  There is no “average” rating.  “Requires Improvement” would mean a practice is compliant but the unintended consequences may be a negative reaction in the practice and on morale, press coverage, and impact on the future of the practice.
  • The practice will have to publish its rating. CQC will also publish the rating. There is no place to hide.
  • You cannot challenge the CQC’s rating. You can only challenge/request a review where CQC have not followed the correct process.

The bottom line is that it is important that your Practice gets things right first time!

For practices that use the iQ CQC Toolkit, it is currently being updated so that your practice evidence will auto-map to the new fundamental standards and help re-assess your compliance.  However it will also highlight where there may be gaps in compliance that may need action taking.

The other key point that came across from all the presentations is that Practices are struggling with workloads. Workloads are rising and funding is reducing so unfortunately Practices need to do “more with less”.

Here at FPM Group, our key focus is to provide you with the necessary tools to support you in your role.  We can help take the headache out of CQC compliance.
