Helen Murray - Account Manager

Preparation is key...

In my days as a practice manager, preparing for the QOF visit was a daunting task.  At the time I had limited knowledge of the outcomes and very little awareness of the process itself, as it happens, the QOF visit went very well but the lead up to it was extremely stressful.

With CQC inspections ever looming, it’s really important to get a handle on being prepared, as well as ensuring the staff are prepared for an inspection and obviously coping with the day to day challenges too.  Workforce development and ensuring your staff are fully competent in their roles is an obvious way to ensure that your practices runs efficiently and effectively as possible, allowing you to tick all boxes in the CQC inspection. Whatever your training needs may be, Thornfields will have a course to suit your practice or organisation or as previously mentioned we can create bespoke courses to meet your specific requirements.  Our practical and interactive ‘Preparing for a CQC inspection’ workshop is as popular as ever and will ensure that you and your team are fully aware of the requirements.

Recently we have seen an increase in the number of bookings for Thornfields training, especially for some of our newly developed courses.  If you read the blog last week you may have seen the article by our Guest Blogger Malcolm Thomas; ‘What if the surgery roof starts leaking?’  Now this is something you hope would never happen, but what if it did?  Would you know how to cope?

I found myself in a situation once where our ‘not fit for purpose’ surgery premises really needed decorating.  Now that was actually not as easy as it sounds to organise; there are a lot of things to consider.  Disruption to patient services, opening up the building at weekends, confidentiality in the practice with outside organisations coming in, agreeing a price for the work to be done...the list goes on.

What I really could have done with at the time is a workshop on ‘Effective Facility Management and Maintenance of Surgery Premises’  - knowing how to specify and organise the required maintenance and negotiate with the contractors would have really helped me.  With impending CQC inspections, the ability to manage and maintain premises is even more relevant.

As the financial year draws to an end, we are aware that sometimes organisations find themselves in a ‘use it or lose it situation’.  At FPM Group we pride ourselves on being flexible in order to meet your requirements and we are always happy to discuss pre-payment with a view to booking courses at a later date; as and when you decide where and who in your organisation can benefit.

If you would like to discuss any of the above points with me then I would welcome a call or email from you and I will gladly attend one of your practice manager meetings.  I would also welcome any comments below.
