CQC consultation events

The CQC (Care Quality Commission) is running a number of consultation events around the country – aimed at finding out the views of interested parties regarding the changes to the inspection process in General Practice that are scheduled to commence later in 2014.

The changes to the inspection and rating system have huge implications for practices – understanding how the ratings will be made and the key lines of enquiry will be vital in preparing the practice for the new inspection team’s visit.

Demonstrating compliance against the five key questions across each of the highlighted population groups may be more challenging for some practices as it will require input from every section of the practice team and the patient population. In fact, the importance of patient engagement and involvement cannot be underestimated.

There are many aspects of the consultation document and the proposed changes that have not been fully explained  - such as the points about “case tracking patients “ and “observing care”.

When is the new CQC inspection regime going live?

The new inspection regime is expected to go live in October and every practice will be visited before the end of April 2016. It is vital that managers are prepared.

The CQC website has all the necessary documentation and the consultation roadshow schedule is also available on there. I would strongly recommend the GPs and Practice Managers attend one of them as it is your service they are talking about. Get along to one or take part in the online consultation – after all, it’s your service that they are regulating. I, certainly, would want to have a say in what happens.

In the meantime catch Helen Murray's article on all the latest news surrounding the changes to CQC inspections from Pulse Live 2014.
