Are you a new partner in a GP surgery, or are you thinking of becoming one? If so, you’ll want to know about a new business training allowance that the NHS has introduced—the New to Partnership Payment Scheme.
The scheme is aimed at helping registered health care professionals in primary care to become practice partners, supported by a learning fund, and is nationally managed. It’s a commitment made in a recent update to the GP Contract Agreement. At time of writing, the scheme is currently projected to end on 21 March 2022.
With many training modules focussing on clinical aspects of primary care roles, this represents a valuable opportunity to improve vital non-clinical skills such as business and financial acumen.
Successful applicants can access two benefits of the programme:
- A training fund of up to £3,000 to support early partnership skills development
- A sum of £20,000 (for a FTE role, pro-rata) to support establishment as a new partner
Applicants are invited from a list of registered health care professional roles working in general practice delivering GMS, PMS and APMS:
- General Practitioner
- Nurse (including ANP)
- Pharmacy Technician
- Occupational Therapist
- Mental Health Practitioner
- Physician Associate
To be a successful applicant, you’ll need to show you have the skills and experience to meet the eligibility criteria. That’s where Thornfields can help.
Our ILM 5 Award and ILM 5 Certificate are designed especially to provide the skills and attributes that new partners will need as they take on their new role. They are delivered online by experienced practice managers who have many decades of commercial management experience. Chartered Accountant Phil Harnby ACA has designed the financial module and will deliver that part of the course.
ILM 5 Award
Accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), this training programme has been specifically developed for GPs and senior managers to develop their leadership skills. The course consists of 5 days of learning spread over a 5-month period.
ILM 5 Certificate
The only ILM course of its kind, this programme has been designed for senior leaders in primary care who want to further develop their management and leadership capabilities. As a partner of the future, we’ll prepare you for the changes you’ll face and help you to innovate, understanding the importance of partnership working, financial management and more effective delegation. The course consists of 9 days of learning, spread over a 9-month period.
