ILM-Accredited Courses Build Lasting Leadership Skills – Could Your Practice Benefit?

Charan Sarai, Training Business Manager for Thornfields, the recently crowned Education Provider of the Year at the GP Awards, discusses the success of the primary care training specialists’ ILM-accredited courses, which focus on the real challenges that managers and leaders face on a daily basis and help build leadership, management and coaching skills.

“Yippeee! All of our hard work paid off… a huge thank you to Charan for her excellent training sessions, knowledge, dedication and support!” This is the response I received from the course organiser when the delegates received the good news that they have passed their Level 3 award.

Congratulations must go to this amazing group of managers who are all thrilled at their well-deserved success, which has come through hard work and commitment. The reason they worked so well together was that their individual skill mixes contributed to the team as a whole. Many thanks must also go to their line managers and mentors for the support given to them.

The modules covered in the course are important whatever leadership role one takes.  We covered the following in our Managing People with Confidence modules: Communication Excellence, Conflict Management, Establishing Effective Teams, Problem Solving and How to Motivate Staff.

The Institute of Leadership & Management is a specialist membership organisation that raises the professional standards of leaders and managers. This is something we at Thornfields believe will be at the forefront of the GP Forward View.

ILM creates leaders and develops managers through qualifications, training and cutting-edge research and we as trainers at Thornfields are privileged to facilitate that learning and development as we guide the delegates through Levels 3 and 5 of the ILM programmes. Thornfields’ trainers are experts with real first-hand experience of these challenges, which enables us to deliver the training to the highest standard.

As lead trainer for the ILM programmes, I strongly believe that managers in general practice need help to grow their practices, retain highly motivated staff and expand the leadership roles within.  This can be facilitated through the ILM programmes, with help given to find the right management training solution for their needs. Lots of investment is going into General Practice, so let’s make the most of it and develop the potential that is out there.

Here are some testimonials from the team who have just passed their Level 3:

Charan is a fantastic trainer… I would highly recommend this course, it really is an invaluable tool for your personal development of Leadership & Management skills within the workplace.”

“I found the course a valuable experience and a great opportunity to talk with colleagues who have similar problems and (can) help each other. The group was great and I would like to thank CHEC for organising a great course and Charan for all her support throughout the sessions.”
