Life after Whitley and the implications of Agenda for Change

A workshop for Practice Managers and GPs

The NHS Whitley Council scales will not be republished after 2006. Practices which have been using the Whitley scales now face a dilemma of exactly what to do in order to determine fair salaries and other benefits for their staff, particularly as they can be in competition with NHS employers (whose staff are now all on Agenda for Change terms), or even other practices, for recruiting and retaining staff.

Practices do not legally have to participate in Agenda for Change, and with an estimated increase in the salaries budget of 16% and upwards over the next three years, as well as considerable increases in other benefits, it is no wonder that many are reluctant to embrace the new system.

To consider the options and help practices make informed choices, this one-day workshop will:

  • Provide an overview of Agenda for Change
  • Consider staffing structures within a practice
  • Look at the alternative options for salary systems from 2006
  • Demonstrate a straight forward job evaluation system designed for use in your own practice
  • Discuss special circumstances, such as protection of salary
  • Review other benefits, such as annual leave, flexible hours, sick-pay schemes

The workshop has been developed, and is presented by, Patricia Gray. Patricia is an HR specialist and Management Consultant who has eleven years experience as a Practice Business Manager/Partner and now works as a management adviser, trainer and facilitator in general practice.
